Bethlehem Prices

Date: 02 April 1987

The Bethlehem Steel Corporation said it had raised the base prices of its carbon, high-strength and low-alloy plate steel by $25 a ton, or about 6.5 percent, effective July 1. The company said its composite prices for alloy plates would also increase by $25 a ton. The company does not publish its prices for those products. Bethlehem said the affected products represent about 8 percent of its sales. The increases follow a similar move by the USX Corporation, which recently increased prices on its plate products by 7.2 percent.

Boliden-Allis Deal

Boliden A.B., the Swedish mining and metals group, said it would buy the mining machinery division of the Allis-Chalmers Corporation for 600 million kronor, or about $90 million. The move is part of a restructuring announced by Allis-Chalmers March 4. Allis-Chalmers, which is based in Milwaukee, said it did not expect any material gain or loss from the sale of the division, which employs 4,300.

CPC, Ajinomoto In Asian Venture

CPC International Inc., the large food concern that has been restructuring since it became a takeover target, said it had agreed to sell interests in several Asian grocery businesses. The interests - in Hong Kong, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand - will be sold for $340 million to the Ajinomoto Company, a large Japanese food enterprise. The businesses will be operated as a joint venture of CPC and Ajinomoto.
